Five Special Forums will be held on the afternoon of 27 August, addressing the transformation of textile and fashion systems in the era of digitalization, Human-Centric innovation, and interdisciplinary convergence. The forums will cover key domains including Digital Product Passports in textile supply chains, intelligent manufacturing systems, textile safety and health, interdisciplinary creative economy, and sport bioengineering. Beyond traditional academic sessions focused on specific scientific advances, the TBIS2026 Special Forums are designed as integrative platforms bringing together academic researchers and industrial professionals to explore application-driven innovations. Through a combination of expert presentations and round-table discussions, these forums aim to foster cross-disciplinary dialogue, align technological developments with real-world challenges, and articulate a shared vision for the future of intelligent, sustainable, and human-oriented textile ecosystems.

Objective: To explore how digital infrastructures, including Digital Product Passports (DPP), enable traceability, transparency, and circularity across textile supply chains.
Core Research Questions:

3) How to ensure interoperability across global value chains?

Objective: Artificial Intelligence is increasingly recognized as a strategic enabler for the transformation of manufacturing systems. However, the industrial value of AI depends not only on technological advances but also on the capacity of companies to successfully integrate AI into production processes, workforce practices, and organizational structures. This forum aims to explore practical pathways for deploying AI technologies in textile and apparel manufacturing while maintaining a strong human-centered perspective. Special attention will be given to productivity improvement, production adaptability, quality enhancement, workforce engagement, and sustainable industrial competitiveness. The forum will bring together researchers, technology providers, industrial practitioners, and policy stakeholders to discuss how AI can move beyond pilot projects and become a scalable driver of industrial value creation within European textile ecosystems.

1) Which AI applications are currently creating the greatest value in textile manufacturing?
2) What are the main barriers preventing AI projects from moving from pilots to large-scale industrial
deployment?
3) How can textile SMEs successfully adopt AI with limited resources and expertise?
4) How should human expertise and AI systems collaborate to improve both productivity and workforce well-
being?
5) What actions are needed to strengthen European competitiveness and technological sovereignty in AI-driven
manufacturing?

Objective: This forum advances the design, evaluation, and deployment of textile-based safety and protective systems through the integration of materials innovation, human factors, and rigorous methodology. It focuses on the protection and health challenges now confronting firefighters and first responders — not only thermal and mechanical threats, but the toxic chemical exposures that increasingly define their long-term health risk: combustion smoke chemicals, contaminated and off-gassing PPE, wildfire and WUI smoke, and the emerging hazards of lithium-ion battery fires. By bringing together materials scientists, human-factors researchers, and methodologists, the forum explores how human-centered design and digital tools — wearable sensing, simulation, and digital twins — can deliver high-performance, evidence-based, and inclusive protective solutions across occupational and health-related domains.
Core Research Questions:
1) How should protective textile systems be designed for emerging and compound hazards — wildfire/WUI smoke, lithium-ion battery fires, and persistent chemical contamination?
2) How can human factors — ergonomics, physiology, perception, and fit across diverse body types — be integrated into protective system design?
3) How can exposure, contamination, and protective performance be evaluated together under realistic, multi-hazard conditions?
4) How can digital tools — wearable sensing, simulation, and digital twins — enhance design, validation, and real-time risk monitoring?

Theme: Toward Reliable, Human-Centered, and Intelligent Protective Systems
Guiding Questions:
1) Where do current protective systems fall short — in protection, comfort and usability, and contamination control?
2) How well do today's testing and certification methods represent real, multi-hazard field conditions, and where are the gaps?
3) How can digital tools (wearable sensing, simulation, digital twins) improve reliability and predictive evaluation?
4) What does end-user adoption require — including inclusive fit across diverse populations — and integration into operational workflows?

Objective: To explore how creative design, scientific innovation, and entrepreneurial ecosystems can jointly shape the future of the textile industry. The forum will examine how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, advanced materials, sustainability-driven solutions, and Industry 5.0 concepts, are transforming the innovation process from creative exploration to industrial deployment and global market impact. Particular attention will be given to innovation ecosystems, commercialization pathways, and Europe–Asia partnerships that can accelerate the translation of ideas into sustainable economic and societal value.

3) How can designers, researchers, industry, startups, and investors collaborate more effectively to accelerate innovation?
